People get married anywhere but in church or at the registry office!

There’s no place too adventurous to say "Yes". Monika Schenkel has arranged marriages on deserted beaches, in the jungle and even on the bottom of the sea. Churches or registry offices, however, are not exactly popular. Those who come to the Caribbean specifically to get married usually have something more exotic in mind.

Getting married in Tobago is really easy for visitors from abroad: all you need to do is spend three days on the island and bring the relevant documents. "The ceremony can be anywhere", says Monika Schenkel, who has organized around 50 weddings over the past 7 years. "Whatever the bride and groom want – most of it is improvised, but it’s all possible."

Balancing across a jungle waterfall with a tray of hors d’oeuvres is just as routine a thing as the plate with the built-in refrigerating unit to prevent the wedding cake from melting in the sun. "But there are surprises each time", Schenkel tells us. "When a gust of wind on the beach blows away the flowers while we’re decorating, or when the bride stands on the beach in high heels and can’t get into the boat."

But eventually everything works out just perfectly despite all those exotic circumstances. There are lots of couples the wedding manager is still in contact with: "Some of them return year after year for their wedding anniversary." More information on weddings in Tobago: click here
