Guyana’s
largest and most remote ranch: 1,700
square miles of steppe with presently
7,000 cattle grazing on it. Amerindian
vaqueros from the Wapishana tribe work
their cattle as they did centuries ago,
using a horse and lasso. The farm
consists of several weathered block
houses without electricity or telephone.
Location: south-west, about
3½ hours drive south of Lethem on
Rupununi river.
Activities:
riding, ranch life, boat trips, bird
watching.
Accommodation:
very simple, clean rooms in block houses
with a shower/toilet, terrace with
hammocks and a magnificent view over the
savannah. Candle light/oil lamps, no
warm water (tap water 26 °Celsius).

night package:
1st
day: jeep safari tour starting in
Lethem, leading right across the
savannah plains at the foot of the
Kanuku mountains and through an
Amerindian Makushi village to Dadanawa
(4 hours). Later, a trip to a hill
offering a fantastic view over the ranch
area. On your
2nd
day you’ll be riding out with the
Amerindian vasqueros and watching them
at work with their lassos and branding
iron. In the afternoon, there’s a trip
by boat, on horseback or in a jeep to
the river rapids with ancient Amerindian
rock engravings by Rupununi river.
3rd
day: return trip to Lethem.
