well-tended oasis of tranquility with a
golden sandy beach on a honey-colored
river, set in the Arawak reservation.
Surrounded by lawns, the Amerindian
long-house style main building with its
dining hall and salon rises in front of
the rainforest. Each of the two exotic
wood blockhouses has four rooms. The
complex has no electricity; oil lamps
create a romantic sea of lights at
night.
Location:
on Pokerero creek, a tributary to
the Demerara river approx. 1½
hours by car & boat south-west of
Georgetown. 15 minutes by boat to the
Amerindian village of Santa Mission. Activities:
bird and wildlife watching by canoe -
guided tours or off your own bat; guided
tours along nature trails around the
Lodge.
Rooms:
double
bed, shower and toilet across the
corridor (no hot water); shared terrace
equipped with rattan furniture and
hammocks. Meal plan: breakfast, lunch,
dinner, local non-alcoholic drinks.
