day:
Georgetown, bed & breakfast in the
beautiful Nostalgia
Hotel.
2nd
day: flight to Lethem, safari drive
across the savannah to Dadanawa
Ranch in the land of the vaqueros.
3rd
day: you’ll be riding out with the
Amerindian vaqueros and watching them
at work with their lassos and branding
iron. In the afternoon, there’s a trip
by boat, on horseback or in a jeep to
the river rapids with ancient Amerindian
rock engravings by Rupununi river.
4th
day: safari drive past Lethem to
Karanambu Lodge, territory of the
giant otters. In the afternoon: boat safari.
5th
day: morning: boat safari to the
honey ponds and huge Amazon water
lilies; evening: boat expedition to a tributary
stream featuring monkeys and many water
birds.
6th
day: boat trip on Rupununi river,
short trip by land to Rock
View Lodge, night at the Lodge.
7th
day: trip through the jungle, visit
to Makushi village of Surama, and on to
Iwokrama, the jaguars’ reserve;
river safari, caiman spotting.
8th
day: Iwokrama, morning: safari
through the jaguars’ reserve – no
promises, but many were lucky and got to
see one. After that you’ll be able to
explore the top of tropical tree giants from
the canopy walkway. Afternoon: guided
tour along nature trails.
9th
day: trip through the rainforest and
mountain area to Demerara River. Short
boat trip, then on to manorial Shanklands
Resort.
10th
day: morning: jungle expedition with
Amerindian guide, afternoon: boat trip
to the old gold rush town of Bartica.
11th
day: optional: flight to Kaieteur
Falls (book locally), otherwise boat
trip to close-by waterfall.
12th
day: boat trip across Essequibo to
Bartica, past numerous islands, and car
ride across the world’s longest
pontoon bridge to Georgetown (city tour).
Bed & breakfast at the Meridien
Pegasus.
13th
day: transfer to airport, departure.
