Barbados: holiday island with everything that goes with it

Guadeloupe:colorful archipelago
A diverse Caribbean universe: more than a dozen isles, each a world of its own, like satellites orbiting the double suns that are Grande Terre and Basse Terre. These two islands make up the "mainland" of Guadeloupe, two butterfly wings, divided only by a narrow channel, but completely unlike one another. In the east, on Grande Terre, sugar plantations dominate the flat terrain. Mountainous Basse Terre in the west plunges from the 1500m high peak of the Soufriere volcano down to the turquoise blue Caribbean Sea below: blanketed in dense rainforest, it has gorgeous golden beaches in the north, and natural wonders in the south, like the sea-bed hot springs in the Jacques Cousteau diving area.

Guyana’s official language is English, the radios here play reggae music, the most popular beer is the ‘Carib’, and the capital Georgetown with its Victorian timber palaces and churches is considered the Garden City of the Caribbean.

Four fifths of the country is covered by tropical forest. The vast savannah stretches across the south west. Golden sandy beaches line the streams and rivers, the gold and diamonds in their beds colouring the water a shade of honey or amber. Kaieteur Falls, the world’s highest water falls, gush down a drop of 700 feet from Pakaraima Mountains – this remote place can only be reached by plane or on foot.

Leave the beach chair behind for a couple of days and go on an expedition! You’ll be picked up at the airport and taken to a lodge of your choice by jeep and boat. Places that are very remote can be accessed by plane. Of course you can also combine different lodges and resorts, or you might fancy one of the adventure packages, e.g. "Guyana Highlights" or the "Private safari accross Guyana". Your travel agency will tell you all about the options you have with your stay in the Caribbean.
The best time for travelling if you want to go on a safari in Guyana is January to April and September to November. May to mid-July is the rain period. Large areas of the savannah in the south west are flooded and not accessible for vehicles before the end of August. The best chance of spotting jaguars is in the mating season in May.

Saint Lucia:The island that never sleeps
Non-stop Caribbean. in the daytime, Saint Lucia’s all easy going: people bathing on palm-framed beaches, wandering around exotic fishing villages, hiking or jungle biking in dense tropical forests, or snorkelling and diving among colourful coral reefs. An idyllic place of tranquillity and tropical nature. In the evening, though, Rodney Bay awakens to a bustling nightlife: you’ll find more than 40 bars, restaurants and nightclubs along the trendy mile in the tourist centre. Even in some of the fishing villages people party right until the first rays of sun dip the majestic Pitons in pink light. They’re two volcanic plugs jutting out of the sea, almost 800 meters in height, which used to be worshipped as gods by the Carib Indians. A new, happy day in paradise is about to begin…
St. Vincent: wonderfuly wild
Wild and pristine: St. Vincent is home to the Black Caribs. The origins of this mysterious tribe are obscure. A ship carrying slaves from Africa is said to have shipwrecked on the island’s reefs, and the blacks to have mixed with the native Carib Indians. Even today they keep up their traditions, and mainly live of fishing along the coastline. Much of the heartland is still covered with tropical forest reaching right up to the volcano summits. Small wonder then that Hollywood’s film-makers chose one of St. Vincent’s hidden bays as the main film location of “Pirates of the Caribbean”. The scenery of “Port Royal” can be admired in Walilabou Bay, just as Johnny Depp left it…
Tobago: Island of Robinson Crusoe
The island of Robinson Crusoe: an exotic picture book paradise. Palm trees, laden with coconuts bow to the waves gently lapping on the shore. Huge butterflies and tiny hummingbirds flit colorfully through the rainforest which covers the interior of the island. Large numbers of fish of every color and size inhabits the waters and extensive reefs along the coast. Life in the small fishing villages and the sleepy capital follows a soothing rhythm. The tourism mainly congregates in the south-west of the island in Crown Point, where nice bars and restaurants offer entertainment. Every Sunday night all hell breaks loose in the little place of Buccoo, „The Sunday School", a hot party for locals and visitors alike.
Travel Information Trinidad & Tobago
Climate: Warm and rather dry between January and May, wet between June and December. Trinidad has the tropical climate with more precipitation. Throughout the year the temperature is between 77 and 91 degree Fahrenheit.
Hazards / diseases: Special vaccinations are not required for Trinidad & Tobago and usually not necessary. It is sufficient to get the usual protection (tetanus, etc.). When traveling in rural areas a vaccination against hepatitis A should be considered. Mosquitoes and sand flies can be annoying, it is best to protect yourself with one of the insect repellent agent, which is available for purchase everywhere on the islands.
Medical care: There are good doctors, clinics / hospitals in Tobago and Trinidad. Recommended in any case are: a travel health and repatriation insurance in case of serious illnesses.
Money / Currency: The currency in Trinidad and Tobago is the Trinidad and Tobago dollar (TT dollars). You will get approx. 6 TT dollars to 1 US dollar. It is advisable to bring U.S. dollars, as these are widely accepted and exchanged. VISA and MasterCard are accepted in general too. There are also ATM machines available, which can be used with the card and a pin-code.
Shopping: The prices in the supermarkets and restaurants are about the same as in tourist centers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The supply of food and beverages is plentiful; almost everything else is also available.
Trinidad: nature paradise with an exotic population mix
An island of contrasts: Pulsating life, exotic cultures, overpowering nature. You discover romantic wild shores, mountain ranges with dense, impenetrable virgin forest and rushing waterfalls, mangrove swamps where beautiful red scarlet Ibis live, and in the south, the only asphalt lake in the world.The flora and fauna of South America and the Caribbean are concentrated in the tightest of space. 430 types of birds, 620 types of butterflies, 700 different types of orchids, 100 types of mammals and 70 types of reptiles.
