Festivals in Guyana: Rodeo, Indio festival and duck curry Olympics
There are almost as many festivals in Guyana as there are trees in the jungle: Amerindians, Indians, Africans, Chinese, Europeans - each nation has its own festivities but they’re celebrated by everyone. Some of the festivities are absolutely unique.

Rodeo in the land of the vaqueros: at Easter, cowboys - actually American Indians – have bull riding and wild horse riding competitions in the savannah town of Lethem. The tough vaqueros from the Rupununi are worth seeing even just for the sake of their lassos and spurred boots without soles.

Duck curry Olympics: the teams come from Canada, India, the United States, Surinam and Trinidad to compete with the best duck curry cooks of Guyana. Semi-finals take place in May, the final is in July.

Festival of the Amerindians: all throughout September Guyana’s nine Amerindian tribes present their ancient legends, arts, music, dances and lifestyle. Events take place all over the country.
